Hippy Happy Birthday

The first issue of Gay News (below) hit the streets thirty years ago in June 1972. Started by members of the Gay Liberation Front, it was the first British gay newspaper and included national and international news; reviews of film, TV and pop; details of forthcoming gay events and classified ads.

Summer 1972 and GN reported that John, who often came to Brighton to 'meet other men', ended up in police cells for 3 weeks, accused of cottaging.
