New in the Archive

Golden nuggets of queer history, past and future, keep flowing in. Since the last newsletter, we have been delighted to receive: from Peter, 1950s photographs of drag artistes Gary Webb and Sonny Dawkes (more of this in the next newsletter); from Nick, a file of late 1990s Brighton University LGB Soc papers; from Jenny, lots more photos to add to the Bubbles Ashdown collection; from Elaine, a selection of radical feminist magazines and booklets from the early 1980s, a copy of We're Here, a 1977 feminist book of interviews with ordinary lesbians and a photograph of Peter Tatchell; from Graeme, a number of gay magazines and maps and correspondence with B&H Police about an assault; from Naomi copies of the Theatre for Change videos, Good As You and The Amazing Graces; from Val, a copy of Here Lies the Heart, the 1960 autobiography of poet, playwrite and socialite, Mercedes de Acosta, which shocked her friends rigid (see That furious lesbian for Val's review of the recent biography by Robert A. Shanke); from Benedict, Sussex University LGBT Group's AIDS Christmas Tree messages; from Hove Reference Library copies of Spare Rib and MS magazines from the 1970s and recent copies of DIVA; from Nina, Millie and Graeme, much welcomed press cuttings.

We'd also like to say a belated thank-you to George for a photograph taken at one of the 42 Club shows at the Co-op Hall in the late 1960s and to Jo Purvis for copies of press, TV and radio features, which have called upon her vast knowledge of the gay scene in the last half of the twentieth century.
