Brighton Ourstory was set up in 1989 by a group of local lesbians and gay men. Our aim is to collect material about our lesbian, gay and bisexual past - and present - and to make sure that our experience is preserved and made visible to the lesbian, gay and bisexual community.
Our main objectives are:
oral history interviews to preserve a record of our lives
producing exhibitions, publications, performances to increase awareness of our lives and visibility of our history
establish a lesbian and gay history archive in its own premises
You can find out more about the archive, it's history and our hopes for it's future.
Our approach is very much that of an oral history group interested in ordinary lives: our primary focus is not academic or theoretical.
We focus especially (but not exclusively) on material about Brighton or with some Brighton connection.
Brighton Ourstory became a registered charity in 2004, number 1106242. We run entirely on subscriptions and donations, so if you can spare just a little this month, or something every month, we'd be more than grateful. Just click the little donate button. Go on. Just a little click...
